POST-CONFERENCE FIELD TRIP

Wednesday, September 11

7:45 - 19:30

During our post conference field trip, we will examine exposures of Lower and Middle Pennsylvanian (Langsettian – Duckmantian) strata, assigned to the Caseyville and Mansfield Formations, along the eastern margin of the Eastern Interior (Illinois) Basin near the town of Cannelton, Indiana. Special emphasis will be placed on the origin of coal beds in this interval, using palynologic, petrographic and geochemical data. Stratigraphic relationships with other areas, worldwide, will also be discussed. The field trip will be led by Cortland Eble and Steve Greb from the Kentucky Geological Survey.

Please bring appropriate walking/hiking shoes and raincoats.

This is an optional event and is not included in the conference registration fee.
