Welcome to Denver, Colorado
for the TSOP Annual Meeting 12 - 16 September, 2010
This year's TSOP meeting should be an excellent one. There is a diverse offering of energy related talks and posters and the planned attendance should allow for extended professional interaction. There are scientists from more than 6 countries registered for the meeting adding a wonderful international flavor to the meeting.
A few words about the city and its weather. Let me start by saying it is advisable to research some of this on the Colorado-related sites. The city is at an elevation of 5280 feet (over 1600 meters), thus the informal name of the Mile-High city. This is the minimum elevation, and the elevation will increase quickly going into the mountains. This could mean something to people who may wish to do strenuous activity; indoors or outdoors. If you are not planning on being very active, there should be little concern.
The weather can be variable and can quickly change from hot to cool/cold and from dry to raining. Temperatures are often about 85 to 50 F (about 28 to 14 C). Most important for many people is the humidity. The air is very dry and if you are from a humid climate, you will notice this. You may need to drink more water here.
These are just several things to consider before your travels to Colorado. You should expect to see a beautiful city in a beautiful part of the country. I hope you have the time to see more beyond the meeting. Enjoy your visit!
